I guess I was a good neighbor! One day last week I got home from work and our neighbor was in the driveway (His wife had recently passed so we have been keeping tabs on him). He likes his beer as I do and we have tried not to disturb each other over the years but mostly kept to ourselves and were friendly during our encounters. He is a Vietnam Vet with his own demons but harmless and mostly likable and we felt sorry for him so tried to help as we could. As I got out of my vehicle we started talking and he stated that he would be moving and selling the house and I stated that we would be sad to see him go but understood.
Today when I got home I saw that he he had removed the solar panels from his roof. He came out to greet me as I got out of the car and informed me that the panels were now leaning against my gate and handed me the charge controllers. The batteries were at the back of his driveway, he said that they were dead and that I should take them on my next aluminum can run to the recycle center for additional cash. He stated that he had seen the panels I have for my shed and figured I would put them to better use than the new occupant. I thanked him for the gift and offered to help him move out if he needs the physical labor.
We will see if he takes me up on the offer however I just scored some 15 watt panels and two charge controllers and probably $20 bucks for the batteries at ZERO COST. Every once in a while an unlucky SOB scores! I know it aint a lot for most folks but I WILL put them to good use and I do appreciate the gift.

Traveling Kentucky!
This week I traveled through most of the western part of the state on sales calls. The people I met were very friendly however the observations of driving through the back roads were more informative to me. I drove through some quaint small towns and witnessed how our economy was faring in these areas. I did not like what I saw as small businesses were displaying the "Out of Business" meme. Kentucky is fly over country for the DC folks however it is indicative of the economy throughout the rest of the country. If what I have witnessed this week is a measure of our policies toward our way life then we are in serious trouble when a small town (Mom and Pop) store who is the only local offering goods for miles around has this sign in the window then we are in deep S**T. I took a good look as I was driving and did not like the amount of "For Rent, This Space Available and CLOSED signs that I saw.

Hotel has free internet!
I was in the car for over 9 hours made six sales call stops in new territory yesterday. Got some good info, so boss will be happy and I am too. Sat in hotel room chilling, just took my meds and chased them with a beer and caught up on the news. So far no aftershocks from Tuesdays earthquake. I have been dreading being out of town but K is OK and it has gone pretty good so far. I have never seen this much of Kentucky in one day and have never been in areas of the western part of the state before. The people I have met so far have been very pleasant and friendly.

Kentucky CCDW
In Kentucky the concealed carry law is the CCDW (Concealed Carry Deadly Weapons). I obtained my original on 4/11/2007 and it expires 4/11/2012. So today I went to the Sheriff's office and turned in my paperwork and made out a check to the Sheriff and one to the state police. They issued me a receipt and told me that the state would notify me by mail when to return to the Sheriff to pick up my new card.
I guess they have to run me through the database to see if I have committed a crime or been accused of domestic violence since 2007. No problem as this is a good thing but it seems like they could do this at the Sheriff's office with today's Fusion Centers and networks they could have all my info in minutes.
State laws have not changed to keep up with the technology or is it that the state lawmakers do not understand how much information is compiled on citizens and how easy & fast it can be made available through the efforts of the last two presidents.

I forgot to post these last week so I am posting now as I do not have any for this week. K's laptop was falling apart so I had to get her a new one yesterday. She is normally very hard on them but had taken a lot better care of this one, it was just a cheap refurbished model and the USB ports were all loose. I will see if I can fix it and use it as a backup prep.

Spent Saturday morning using TurboTax to file my taxes. When I cashed out my Fidelity retirement account last year I had them take out a little extra not knowing how the year would turn out.
