Personal Update

For those of you that know me (Few) I have been dealing with some issues over the last few years. I will now recap for those that are new to this blog and explain the reasons for the recent lack of posts for the rest.

In 2007 I was recruited to a position with a small company in Columbus Ohio. I moved my wife and me there and bought a house as everything was looking up for us. I did not sell my house in Louisville and refurbished/repaired it and moved my mother in law in. She was on limited government income and I charged her no rent as I could pay both mortgages with the new job.  In 2008 shit happened and things did not look so good. I began to worry! In 2009 I was let go due to the failing economy. My wife has ocularhistoplasmosis and is legally blind in one eye that we know of. She had to quit working in a doctor’s office as she could no longer take x-rays, draw blood, and give shots. This was many years ago and her vision has worsened however there is nothing we can do about it so we have not had her vision checked in the last few years.

So here I was sole supporter of several family members with two mortgages and no job. I had to go on unemployment! I was not happy about it but TPTB left me no choice and I thought I would find a job quickly. It was not to be as that area was hit hard and I was relatively new with little reputation in the in the new area. I started cashing in all of my retirement to make ends meet. I was out of work for almost two years searching diligently for employment. I had many interviews and recruiters looking at me but nobody was hiring.

I decided to put the house in Columbus on the market and move back to Louisville. We moved into the basement of my house and left the upstairs for the mother in law while I went back and forth working on painting and improvements to get the house sold. Finally I was able to get a lease/purchase agreement with a young family that needed time for the military benefits to kick in. The agreement was for 20K less that I bought the house for (my entire down payment).

During this time I was not feeling well with night sweats, blurring vision, shaking hands and dizzy spells. I also had a couple of episodes of severe nose bleeds however I did not go to the doctor as I had no insurance. I somehow managed to move all of our stuff back to Louisville with a little help from a friend and a brother in law. On one of the last trips back I felt so bad I thought I was going to die. When I finally made it back to Louisville family called the EMT who lived across the street. My blood pressure was 178/132 (normal 120/80) and I was in stroke territory. I went to the doctor and he immediately put me on meds. This started helping as I made the last few trips.

When I finally got everything out of the house and turned the keys over I went back to Louisville and was contemplating how best to start my job search here. I decided that I would go to a society meeting that I had previously been very active with and announce my return and availability. Before this happened I was contacted by a colleague and asked if I would be interested in a position with his company. Within a week of returning my reputation alone landed me an interview here without trying.

I got the job for half the salary I was making plus commission and I am still there as they are good people and treat me well. They have even thanked me for coming to work for them on numerous occasions. I have thanked them as well and voiced my loyalty to them for giving me the opportunity. During this time I have been continually struggling with medications to get my BP where it needs to be. Some of the medications I have been put on were ineffective, one over effective and some with side effects I could not live with.

This week, still dealing with side effects of a new medication, I was able to finally get the sale on the house in Columbus closed. This should reduce my stress and hopefully help with the blood pressure. I no longer have to worry about a property three hours away and I did not have to foreclose which will keep my credit and integrity in tact.

Even though I got fucked severely I paid my bills and honored my commitments and Kept my Word. I did not take the easy way out even though it took a lot of time and has effected my health. For the III that understand it is all about personal honor not the cost. Money is just a tool and tools can be replaced. Honor once lost is seldom regained without extreme effort and sacrifice.

My only hope is that one day our government will learn to act in such a manner! And I know our next government will.

Dont got one? Then get one!

At this price why not?

Dont got one? Then get one!

Updates

Doc has been trying to get my BP into his "comfort" zone in the last month or so. First he increased one of my medicines Clonidine which caused my BP to plummet to pass out levels. Then he put me on a water pill Indapamide which after a week resulted in some serious side effects including extreme dizziness and weakness. Three weeks ago he put me on methydopa and after almost two weeks I developed a severe case of diarrhea which started slowly last Saturday. Last Monday I went back in to Doc's office after work to have blood drawn again as he told me too (Medication can effect kidney and liver functions). I was not feeling well and it got worse that evening so I stopped taking the methydopa. I was on the toilet most of that night and had to email in sick the next day. Wednesday I went back to work as I had not eaten and was hoping I could at least get a half day in. I made it the whole day and put in 10 hours. I have felt a little better progressively as the week went on. Yesterday I made a turd for the first time in a week and felt really good. Doc has been on vacation this week so I did not get the results of Monday's blood draw and could not get in to see him. I have not taken any of the new med since Monday suspecting a reaction but it may have been a virus. I have an appointment Monday afternoon and will learn more then with the lab results and consultation.

Last night I talked to Kevin again. His brother Bobby caught me as soon as I pulled in the driveway from work and invited me over later. After changing clothes and relaxing a bit I walked two doors down to their house and had a beer with Bobby and Dan. Dan was the neighbor across the street that I told I would protect his daughter if I could. Kevin pulled in the driveway while we were there and after a minute left again before getting out. He returned 15 minutes later and walked up to me handing me $50 and a 12 pack of my beer. I offered him the roll one last time before going home last week and he accepted so he was returning the debt with interest.

I was able to pull Kevin off to the side and talked to him about OPSEC which went well. A little while after the talk between the four of us turned to guns. Dan who previously revealed that he had a .22 rifle but no bullets revealed that he actually does have some in the house for it. Kevin had gone shooting during the week at a free spot he has access to and they shot his friends AR, shotgun and .22 handgun. Kevin again lamented on the fact that he was weaponless as he highly enjoyed the experience. I asked him if he wanted a .22 rifle as I had an old Glenfield that belonged to my uncle before he died (It is heavy with wood stock and tube fed which takes to long to reload) and I have a 10/22 that I prefer. I ended up walking back to my house and retrieving it with some oil and solvent and taking them to him. The discussion turned to all of us planning a shooting session at his free location (yes even Dan was enthusiastic). I think that we will probably do this soon as everyone was interested in participating.

I showed Kevin how the safety on the weapon worked, how to adjust the Tasco scope and talked to him about cleaning care and maintenance. Dan asked if I would be willing to bring my cleaning kit down there one day and help them clean and oil their rifles. I responded hell no you gun crazy sob that I would be happy to oblige. I told Kevin that I would bring him a hundred rounds when we were not drinking beer and he stated again from last week that you are only one of ten people I can trust and can rely on. I replied you are a lucky man because you just made my list of two.

A Breakthrough

As I told Dio and Brock I was working on LOCAL, specifically my neighborhood. Tonight I had a breakthrough! I went to a neighbors house for an association meeting (code word for beer and bullshit around a ping pong table in his driveway). During this time I overheard Kevin stating that a customer known to him through church and family for many years had stiffed him on a job. Kevin lost his real job sometime back and has been working odd jobs on his own to make ends meet. I have had Kevin help me with a few things around here and paid him in beer and shine.

Kevin is a good person and was extremely upset that he was treated this way by someone he thought was as honorable as he. After listening in front of others I went back home and grabbed one roll of fives from my emergency stash (10 - $5 bills rolled up with a rubber band around them). I went back down the street and waited for him to finish a game he was playing. I pulled him off to the side down the driveway and asked him to let me help by offering the roll to him. He promptly thanked me but refused. We then had a conversation about family and people who should treat you right but do not. I put the roll back in my pocket as the discussion proceeded to continue to moral values and character. After a few minutes I let him off the hook and went back home to check on the wife and take a shot of my favorite liquor.

When I went back Kevin was in a very heated argument with another neighbor about guns and preparing for what is going to come. I was shocked and listened for a few minutes without comment. Our neighbor was adamant on his non violent views stating if that happens I have a baseball bat and if they have guns I will be gone and so be it. I spoke in at this point and asked what if there are six of them wanting to ransack your house and rape your teenage daughter?   Kevin chimed in stating you need a gun and you need to teach your kids how to use them for what is going to come. The neighbor jumped up stating OK I see that you two are in coercion and I am odd man out. When is this going to happen and what will it be? We both in unison (almost) stated we do not know but it WILL happen and in the near future!

In front of neighbor I looked at Kevin and asked "Have you and I ever had a discussion on this topic?" Kevin stated NO but it is going to happen as everything is falling apart and it IS going to get very bad!  I looked neighbor in the eye and stated "I have guns and will protect your daughter if I can when you are dead!".

I was totally taken aback by the fact that this conversation had even started and Kevin's view on this. I asked him where he was getting this information. Kevin does not surf the net or news or blogs and I was amazed by the fact that he saw this based on the fact of personal observations alone. Neighbor listened and stated "You guys are scarring the shit out me" and walked off shortly thereafter.

Kevin and I continued the conversation about sheltering in place during the turmoil verses heading to the woods as he is planning. I told him he is not alone and there are a growing number of us willing to help like minded individuals. I told him of a limited amount of my preps and that when it happens I will help if I can but we will ALL need to help each other to survive. Kevin does not have any guns (although he sees the need) or any preps at this time or the means to acquire them quickly.

However Kevin has skills that I lack and I have skills and knowledge that he lacks. He is honest as am I and stated to me if I come to your door be assured that I really need help and anyone with me I trust completely or I would not bring them! Please let me speak before blasting us! I assured him that as of this point we are cool and he will be allowed the courtesy he deserves.

I told him it was getting late for me and I needed to get home however we will continue the conversation later.
