This months preps

I got a two hundred dollar water bill this week (gardens can be expensive plus I filled the wife's pool) so I devoted my discretionary cash to my first Rain Barrel. A little over a hundred buck for the setup and fittings.

I also purchased some soaker hoses as the sprinkler I was using also watered much of the lawn and neighbors property no matter how I set it. My only other purchases were another FIFO can rack but it ain't here yet (at least they offered to cover the shipping since it went on back-order) and a Cone Strainer & Pestle set.

Why do I keep seeing this more and more at websites that usually stay away from even the merest hints of rebellion.

It was a great success!

It was a meeting of the top mind, a lot of conversation went around and all of the problems facing us were agreed upon and solved!

 Now to implement the PLAN!

Is Your IRA Going To Be Raided?

Pay attention class!

"Fourth, we are in a period where citizens will need to do less with less.  Focus on those things that you can do to better shape your circumstances.  Gardening is more than just a hobby now for many.  Debt reduction- take action- even small steps over time really add up. Do you really need a 3,500 square foot home for you and a spouse?  Foster better connections and relations with those living around you.  Mutual support is better than gong it alone.  I am not suggesting going off the grid, but a process of simplification and better community involvement is prudent."

OK I'm Hooked!

Someone on this wicked web recommended this series and I spent some time this week watching the first episodes HERE. I know it is about an alien invasion however it correlates with survival and the problems associated with trying to save/rebuild humanity. The next episode is Sunday night on TNT.

You know when they are a democrat.

The other night after work I came home and the wife was not feeling well so I offered to go get some fast food for dinner.  So she decides on Wendy's and I write down an order for her and my mother in law and head to the local establishment. Bless me traffic was light and I was in a good mood when I arrived. As I walked in I stayed back to look at the menu for a moment, the attendant watched me out of the corner of her eye but said nothing. I decided to take the two steps to the register to order. Here is the conversation that followed.

Young Girl: Are you ready to order?

Me: Yes, I would like a double stack cheeseburger, fry's, a large frosty and a large chili to go.

Young Girl: We do not have the double stack anymore.

Me: Then I want a regular double cheeseburger.

Young Girl: A double is $4.77

Me: I don't care, she wants a double cheeseburger.

Young Girl: Do you want cheese on that?

Me: No, I want a double cheeseburger with no cheese, meat, bun or condiments!

Young Girl: {befuddled look}.

Me: You Must be a democrat!

Young Girl: What, how would you know that?

Me: You do not listen, you have no common sense, you have no idea what is going on and you cannot understand a simple concept.

YES I would like cheese on the double cheeseburger I just ordered!

Young Girl: OH OK a double cheeseburger.

Me: Thank you dear!

DUH!

 I knew that!

Another shed project

The old shed looks like crap and the roof has a hole in it. I have begun removing the old roof shingles so that I can replace the wood underneath. I am doing this a little each week so that I can sneak it to the bottom of my trash receptacle and have the local government pick it up and dispose of it.

New Afternoon Post

I am struggling for the title of this post maybe you can help.
My thoughts are;
  • The best investment I ever made
  • The wife and her John
  • How to get the wife to cut the grass
Three years ago before I lost my good job I bought something that has changed my life. I hated cutting the grass every week and hated paying some local kid to do it even more. When we moved to Columbus for the good job we bought a  house on a corner lot with a large yard so I bought a riding lawnmower. The wife fell in love with it!
She cuts the grass almost every week since then. That is 25 plus weeks depending on the seasons. I paid $1500 for it brand new. I figure it would have cost me at least $20+ per week to have a kid cut the lawn. So 25 x 20 =  500 per year times three years equals $1500, so the rest is now money or effort saved on my part.

 Today as she was cutting the grass it started pouring down rain as a small system moved through did she;
a   Run screaming inside that her hair was getting wet?
b  Try to run me over?
c  Keep mowing?

The correct answer is C! So my wife really loves her John!

Now I got to hose the wet grass off before I put it in the shed but I'm OK with that.

Cucumbers!

The wife wants to learn how to make pickles. So far we are off to a late start but we have hopes of getting maybe 10-12 jars. I have already bought salt, dill seed and other ingredients. We will probably try several recipes to see which we like better.

Gun Show next week!

Next weekend another gun show comes to town. My brother in law and I will be going. I want to find some more 30 round magazines for the AR and more clips for my 9mm. I cannot afford it but I also want to look at a scope mount for the AR.

I hope this works and someone is ready to build a plant to make these in America. It would create more jobs and they would have a steady market as GE closed all of their plants.

I am liking Palin more and more as I get the real stories. I have not seen this movie yet however if it can make Ben Howe at Redstate (Link Below) rethink his opinion I think I should spend a few bucks and watch it.

Palin.

Then If can talk about it in depth to a few relatives and coworkers and watch their heads explode it would be worth double the price!

Saving some cash by not giving it to our local government.

I am buying one of these as I am getting tired of stomping my beer cans and the wife's soda cans. For years I have thrown them in the recycle bin not thinking about it. I have about three and a half lawn and leaf bags full now and will take them to the recycle center close to work soon.

From what I have been told I think one bag will pay for this. I will let you know after I make the first trip.

Just got paid so I am buying this

When the tomatoes start coming in the wife wants to make spaghetti sauce, tomato paste and salsa. My Grandmother had one of these but I never saw her use it and I wish I had hers now. I think it was sold at an estate sale and I never knew what it was for as a kid.

I wish they were still around as they had a wealth of information that I would ask them about and have them show me how they survived during the depression. I am trying to learn as much of these "skills" as I can.

Longer Lasting Cash

I use paper money as often as I can and especially when I purchase items I do not want a traceable trail to me (I figure that the video of me at Walmart will be overwritten at some point) so I pay cash for bullets and such.

Longer Lasting Cash

Preps for this month

Cash has been really tight this month and I have spent most of the extra on the garden for fertilizer, manure, stakes and such. However I have also managed to buy additional canning jars, pickling mix, pectin and other supplies in anticipation of the garden actually producing more food than we can eat before it spoils. Also I anticipate some deals once the harvests come in and bring prices down a bit so we can buy food just to can.

As for medical needs we have begun to start stashing back a few pills from our prescriptions each month. We hope to be able to continue doing this by filling our scripts a few days early each month (hoping no one notices). I rotate these by taking the newest pills and saving the quantity I have accumulated plus additional and consuming the pills previously saved last month. I hope to establish at least a six month supply for our personal pharmacy this way. I will let you know how this goes.

Thank you Kenny!

I am a lowly relatively new blogger posting my thoughts and prep efforts and commented on Wirecutter's blog this man must have liked my blog when he checked me out and linked to me without my asking him to do this honorable favor. I opened my stats today and I was up +250% and I assume it was due to this unasked but much appreciated favor by a fellow blogger.

Thanks Wirecutter!

Green beans!

The first batch from these Heirloom plants is in and the wife is snapping them as I type. I am so excited as these will be more nutritious than anything I could buy at the grocery + wife has a ham-hock to cook in with them!

Visit from Wasilla!

My blog got a visit from Sarah Palin's home town and I was excited. I hope it was one of her people or family as I think highly of their actions and demeanor and respect them for gracefully enduring/fighting the attacks against them.

The little F***er!

And so it was the fourth of July and I felt the need to partake in celebration of our freedoms. I went to the local fireworks stands that were pretty much sold out, not liking the offerings at these I decided to cross the river into the next state and found what I was looking for. While in the store I was rounding a corner with my cart when I was blocked by another cart, no problem I can wait for him to move. The little f***er motions me to go ahead knowing full well he is blocking my path. I responded that I cannot get by him. The hate and vitriol he demonstrated to me made me want to whip his punk little ass. I did not and he finally moved out of the way. As I continued shopping he stared at me with the look of hatred displayed for all to see (I had done nothing and said nothing else to him). He was in my thoughts as I drove home and I finally thought of a comeback for him (too late), "With an attitude like that your life expectancy must be dramatically decreased unless you go to prison where the guards can look out for you".

Yesterday while visiting the local news website I saw his picture. He was on parole for a rape conviction and got into a fight that night over a girl. He apparently was not doing so well on parole as his parole officer said he was not meeting any of the goals assigned and flunked drug/alcohol tests. His parole was revoked and he was off to prison. This 19 year old kid wanted to harm me even though I was bigger I was nothing but an old man to him. I am glad this stupid little f***er will live longer and maybe learn some manners and respect!

I however have taken this situation to heart and realized that any time I am outside of my house I may encounter this type of person. I have a concealed carry permit but do not carry. I am seriously rethinking this decision. As a law abiding citizen I am more often running into this type of individual scum.

Next to my bed!

We have no children and I put these away before any family comes over. When they leave they come back out as well as others around the house. The neighborhood knows I have at least one handgun thanks to a 3am drunk neighbor on my porch banging on my door. This is not necessarily bad as word has spread to the local youth. This is my close range immediate protection so that I am not unarmed should anyone have any ideas of harming me or mine.
